Complete and utter bull crap!

So day 3 with beck... how's it going - OMG did I mention that I wish I had read this book a year ago! If you are just starting out on your weight loss journey finish reading this and then GO BUY IT!!!!

Day 1 went well, I did up my que cards and get reminded every day at 9am and 4 pm why I am doing this... I have to admit that day one I felt really dumb doing it, I mean doesn't everyone already know why they want to lose weight, do I need to be reminded so many times a day..the answer is simple Y E S!

Day 2 - well Syl was down so it's a good thing that this task was easy for me. Pick a diet! Well we all know that I have been doing spark people, so I am sticking with the calorie counting. It also asks you to pick a back up diet - I chose weight watchers on line because it's my back up, been there done that, don't want to go back, but if all else fails I would, because there is no going back for this girl!

Day 3 - OK ARE YOU SITTING DOWN.... GOOD...NOW YOU MAY EAT :-)
at first I thought this was really stupid, I mean come on I paid money for this book to be told to sit down while I eat, I mean isn't that common sense?? Well apparently not for this girl. I was very mindful of how and when and where I ate all day. Being a mom of two very TRYING CHILDREN (I mean complete angels) I normally will stretch breakfast a few hours because I take a bite of my toast here, a bite there and next thing I know my coffee is cold and it's lunch time.

Today was different. I actually thought of all the times that I eat while on my feet and it just blew me away, what blew me away even more was a dinner....now BRACE yourselves... (mom if you are reading this STOP)....I left food on my plate because I was FULL! What happened with the remainder of that food, it accidently fell on the floor and world war III broke out between the two dogs.

Haven't we been taught to always eat everything that is on our plate...well let me tell you something this is complete and utterer BULL CRAP!!!!! This is what has got me FAT and why I am fighting this battle in the first place. Why continue eating if you are satisfied...oh yah because there are children starving in third world countries...very true and very sad but isn't it time that we as parents teach our children how to eat like they should, so they don't later on in life have to battle the same challenges that we do.

Day 3 completly left me winded! I can't believe how much I have learned in a day and really reflected on it. This girl is no longer going to eat standing up or everything on her plate because it's there. I am going to stop if I'm full! AMAZING!

After this revolation I took my satisfied self to the treadmill and did a 25 minute run. After skipping yesterdays workout due to being sick I felt well enough to do something. It wasn't the fastest run, but I did leave the treadmill sweating and satisfied - See the trend....

Tommorrow is Day 4 giving myself credit, this should be interesting!

i have the same problem with food. i will eat while doing this, this and that and never actually sit down to enjoy it.

and at my house, the worse thing to do was to leave food. and im still kinda like that. especially when i go out to eat. bc i think that if i am paying this much money for it, i should eat it all.

must stop and enjoy and only eat what i can. when i am full, must stop.

great post!!

I have the book.

I have had it for over a year.

Apparently I need to read it :P

I can't wait to start with the book, will do this on Saturday or Sunday. Haven't got time to read the whole introduction but am prepared: got my cards ready and know I need to make time every day to read a chapter.

I never eat standing up, never have done either. Even though it's just the two of us we always sit down for dinner because we both are busy with our own hobbies so dinner time is the moment of the day we catch up on and talk about our day. I also sit down for breakfast and lunch.

But even though I sit down I know I can eat more thoughtful, most of the times I eat too fast and I know that isn't good.

I will review my experiences on the book also on my blog once I started it. I hear so much positive recensions on it!

I keep finding it strange: I posted my comment a 10.50 pm so it's still Wednesday where you live.

Here it's 7.50 am so my day is about to start

Way to go on the run. And yes, I love the book too. I like the give myself credit thing because I spent so much time before saying bad things to myself and I never stop to think about the good. I find myself, and even Eric now, saying outloud, "I give myself credit for...."

Love how much you are learning.

Funny thing about being a member of the clean plate club...I was watching Ellen (I think) and she had someone on her show (not diet related) who was talking about their childhood. One thing he talked about was what a smartass he was and that as a kid he was told to eat everything on his plate and if he didn't he would get the whole speech about starving kids in Africa, etc. His response was "How is my being overweight, going to help those kids?". I actually laughed out loud because I wish I was that much of a smartass when I was a kid to come up with that!! LOL

I'm loving the book and yep, sitting down at the table while eating with no book or computer really does work. And like you sometimes i don't finish what's on my plate because i am full!

I've never heard of the book and am enjoying your take on it. Interesting.

I was brought up with that as well..eat all your food as there are children starving...and did the same with my kids..am pleased to see my children have broken the cycle with their kids..

I find I eat while watching tv, on computer, walking, reading....have tried to do nothing but focus on food, but struggle.

Am so excited for you...great run as well..still very jealous!!

My problem was that I ate everything on my plate, and on my daughters' plates and then that "not enough to keep" portion in the serving dish. Not a recipe for success...

Awesome! I love reading your posts, you always have motivating information in it! Thanks for giving us a little piece of your life, and good job on the Beck info. I haven't got the book yet, but I will soon. In the meantime I'll take what I learn from you and others that are reading it. And by the way, I like your new blog look!

I find I much more enjoy my food when I sit down and eat it. I don't always get the chance to make meals, even a quick breakfast. There are times I remember times when I'd eat standing up and would think back and not remember what I ate or really how it tasted.

Great job getting back on the treadmill, especially after not feeling well.

I hear ya...I still get a hard time from friends and family for leaving food on my plate when I'm done (not to mention giving myself a hard time sometimes!), but I started doing it a while ago and it does make a difference.

I also don't eat sitting down very often. Or rather, I eat sitting down, but not focused on just the food. I eat lunch at work doing my therapy notes, I eat dinner at home either watching TV or trying to take care of my daughter, and breakfast is often also in front of the computer or in my car.

I haven't gotten farther than just my cue cards yet, but my plan is to read another chapter tonight. I have been stopping to focus more on WHY I want to do this, and is xyz really going to help me get to my goal?

Tomorrow's weigh-in day....so we'll see....

Cannot do this. Totally impossible for me. But I do know what you mean about how easy it is to nibble mindlessly. I'm weird but I actually enjoy eating standing up. I stand in my kitchen and watch the goings on in my back lane. LOL!

Glad you're loving the book Syl. It is a good one.

Thanks for the comment!

My smoothie is:
1 cup of yogurt (I look for lowest calories when puchasing so I end up with different brands for different flavors) I try to keep it around 100 calories for 1 cup.

and 1-2 cup(s) frozen mixed berries (or another fruit)

and ice which is optional. :)

For that smoothie I used strawberry yogurt and mixed berries and a handful of ice. I tried it the night before with vanilla yogurt, both are great. :)

I hear you! Extra weight on my hips is NOT going to help starving children in 3rd world countries or save me money - I've become OK with throwing away food if I know it might set me back to keep it around.

We have houseguests and we ate dinner at the table (we usually eat at the couch). I actually noticed I ate less and enjoyed dinner more, and since we cleaned up right away, I didn't take second or third helpings and I actually have dinner tonight from what we made unexpectedly. It was kinda cool.

At least, for you, it at least got utilized by the pups, hehe.

I started to read the book quite some months ago, made my cards and then really didn't go anywhere with it. I think that is about when I discovered blogging. I think I may have to read it again just to follow along with everyone.

I was brought up to eat everything on my plate and I have paid attention to that lately and some days I struggle with leaving anything. I am getting better but mostly because I'm starting to take a lot smaller portions so that I don't waste anything. If I'm still truly hungry then I have the option to grab some more.

And glad I could make you smile today :)

I'm annoyed because I bought the book. I bought the book and then put it away somewhere (somewhere I would remember) when i got pregnant. Now I'm trying to lose the baby weight and CAN"T FIND THE DARN BOOK!!

It will kill me to buy it again, maybe I should see how much it is.

Anyways - that Day 3 blew me away too, with sitting down while eating. Actually most of the book WE KNOW we just don't REMEMBER. Good luck with it, I think it's a great book (now going to go look, again, for the book)
